Work WITH US!

The QuAD Laboratory is hiring for two summer roles, made possible through the support of the Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP): Research Coordinator (150226) and Programmer (150324).

These roles provide experiential learning opportunities for students interested in research opportunities in cognitive neuroscience and understanding more about how attention supports everyday performance and functioning.

With the support and mentorship of Dr. Effie Pereira and the QuAD lab, the successful candidates will spend time working on two distinct projects:

  • The IDEAS project, which is a multi-method research study that tackles how we form accurate impressions of other people

  • The ADVENTURE project, which is a new research plan that tackles how we assess an individual’s attentional experience in fun and accessible ways

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply their academic learning in practical settings, and enhance a range of skills such as teamwork, written and oral communication, organization, initiative, independent work, creative problem-solving, and more. Applicants from historically-excluded backgrounds within academia are especially encouraged to apply, with information about the laboratory’s inclusive values available on our website.

Qualifications and Skills

The successful SWEP candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at Queen’s University and returning to study in Fall 2025 (for full eligibility details visit the Queen’s SWEP site). In addition, they must also have:

  • An interest in experimental research

  • An interest in learning new tools and techniques for experimental data collection

  • Self-motivation with a high degree of independence

  • Team-based outlook with strong collaborative skills

  • Effective time management skills in order to balance multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
